At the moment, there are an awful lot of terrifying incidents in the daily news: the attack on Charlie Hebdo, ISIS, Al Qaida and all the rest of it. For most of us it’s hard to swallow, fear is lingering inside our bones putting us under enormous stress. Now what is a good self help for fear? There’s a famous German film called Angst essen Seele auf, i.e. Fear Eats the Soul, by R. W. Fassbinder – and that’s exactly what happens! Against the backdrop of fear I suggest the healing power humor.
Self Help for Fear
What’s the result of it? You loose your vitality and health because there’s no place you can run to, similar to a rabbit in front of a poisonous snake. Is it really? No, not at all! I believe there’s an antidote, a loophole called humor. In this sense I’m offering to you self help for fear. If you can laugh in the face of danger then you’re coming from a point which is beyond the machinations of death, beyond a superficial set of rules.
Love Is the Ultimate Reality
Underlying good humor I can find the unshakeable belief in love as the strongest force in the universe, the belief that humanity prevails. Did you know the ancient church had an unusual custom every easter? The pastors and priests used to tell jokes on the pulpit in order to manifest the victory of life over death. With this blog I want to foster this exact spirit. Take sides with humor and share it! Here’s an example:
The terrorists enter paradise questioning: “Eh, where are the 70 virgins now?” The answer comes from the cloud in the back: “With the group of Charlie, losers!”
Change starts like a shy whistle in a dark forest. But finally it’ll put the crazy world upside down as follows: Humor eats Fear!
I’m interested in what you think and what works with you. So please feel free to leave a comment, thanks.
